Travel Through Art by Marilyn Dobrolenski
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Dimensions: 18 x 23.75
Artist Statement: 1st row L-R: Flag - hangs in the school building to represent the history classes. IMPACT - painted on a 4'x8' sheet. IMPACT means Inside Muncy Parents and Children Together. The painting was requested to commemorate its 30th anniversary. It hung on the outside of a separate trailer for special visits with their children. Colosseum - One of a series of paintings depicting the 7 wonders of the Ancient World and 7 wonders of the Modern World. Hangs in the large day room in G unit. 2nd row L-R: Guitar - My guitar before I sent it home. My easel took over its space. :) Peaches & Pottery - Sits on mantel in G unit. Painting on a styrofoam panel. Cherry Blossom - I wanted to paint a larger than life floral. It hangs in a counselor's office. 3 Crosses - This image originated in my mind. Hangs in 2nd floor hallway on G unit. Very popular painting. I've recreated it 5 times. 3rd row L-R: Ginger Jar - Very relaxing ZEN! Atlantis - Hangs in Inmate Dining Room. It's a 4'x6' stretched canvas. I love underwater scenery and marine life. I have been intrigued with the concept of Atlantis for decades. Besides the Roman style architecture, I included 5 statues of Zeus, Hera, Artemis, Diana, & Poseidon. Jason Momoa's image was my model for Poseidon. Space - I am also fascinated with the Universe. It's also a 4'x6' stretched canvas & hangs next to Atlantis in the IDR. There's several constellations incorporated into this painting. Big Dipper, Little Dipper, Orion, Pegasus, & Sirius. "Travel Through Art" represents only a small fraction of the art I've done in the pasat 35 years that either hangs in Muncy or I've sent out. I've said for years that "if I want a change of scenery, I have to paint it." Painting helps keep my sanity and from being bored all the time. I'm one of the fortunate elderly seniors in here as I have the talent to do art & the ability to afford art supplies. Most of the elderly here don't have that to keep them occupied. I appreciate the time & effort all of you put into having us seen & our voices heard. We are no longer the "forgotten people."
