Depth Perception by JHJ

Medium: Acrylic on canvas

Size: 18 x 24

Artist statement: Two paintings by JHJ were found rolled together in etta’s basement when she was cleaning in mid June. Handwriting on the back had the title and ” inmate #LA2692/Roller Over #QB1963″ 2019. Looking for JHJ by numbers in the PA inmate locator revealed nothing. Hopefully that means JHJ is free and doing well. If anyone knows who he is please connect them! etta has no idea where these came from but is assuming someone not in prison donated them to us a couple years ago – long enough that memory has been lost.

Image Description: A surreal and colorful painting, bordered in black. At the top of the piece, on a flat wall there is an image of a large eye with a blue iris with yellow specks, eye makeup, long lashes, and a single tear on a pink background. In front of this, a simple red track comes out of a wall to the left, and enters a wall to the right as though the track has broken a hole through the stones behind the wall. Three colorful semi-transparent balls are traveling down the track. Below and to the front of the track there is a teal marbled countertop, with more colorful balls of various sizes on top. Mossy, vegetation-like growths in many colors are at the corners and bottom of the counter base. The floor below the counter, or where the floor would be, is black with white stars like a scene of a night sky.
