Desk by Harriet Smith

Desk by Harriet Smith

Medium: watercolor, marker, colored pencil

Size: 11×15

Image Description: In the foreground there is a still life of the artists desk. It depicts a can holding pens and colored pencils, and a notebook. The notebook is open to a page that shows part of a monthly calendar. Each box on the grid of the calendar shows a phase of the moon. Behind the desk there is a bookshelf with a note taped to the side. The note reads “Whatever leads you to awaken within the dream of separation let that be your true call.” The background behind the furniture reveals an alternate dimension of reality. It is illuminated by rainbow colors and inhabited by spirits. Two of the spirits are shaped like four point stars with an eye at their centers. Another one looks like a molecular structure with waveforms undulating from it.

Artist Statement: Harriet Smith was groomed into the identity of the artist by well meaning parents, and fully individualized at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. They now spend their free time grappling with how their work as a metaphysically informed textile designer might support earthlings through the galactic federation liberation and initiation processes.
