Artist statement: Well Hello there, my name is Douglas DE Lehman and I’m so excited and honored to be able to take part in your exhibit and fundraiser this year. [My] 2nd drawing “World’s Fly Free”, is my vision of the world’s collective hopes and dreams brought into manifested freedom coexisting in peace and harmony.
Image description: This pen ink and black color pencil drawing shows a table on which sits a needle and a spoon distorted by the effects of the drug high. Fingers are crawling out of the bowl of the spoon and a tattooed forearm and fist rises from the bowl as well. The tattoo on the forearm is a grotesque face of a nurse and the fist holds a broken light bulb. Flowing from the broken light bulb is the image of a computer monitor and disembodied hand drawing a mountain lake scene, “SAVE ME” and “F**K DOC” are scratched into the fixture behind this flowing image. Below the fixture are three hallucinogenic drawings affixed to the wall. The first features a robotic parrot and a smiling skull that is partially obscured by the forearm rising from the spoon. The second drawing features a blonde haired woman’s head . A staircase crosses over her face from the left obscuring her left eye and breaking through her skin below the eye. The staircase re-emerges from her open screaming mouth. The background of this picture depicts various gravestones engraved with”RIP”. The third drawing shows a clown face with dark vertical slashes painted at each eye. The clown has a ruffled collar. The background is filled with”HAHAHAHAHA”. The table also includes a pot holding various artistic implements. The rim of the pot is inscribed with ”ILLFLUENCE” and the body of the pot includes the artist’s initials”DC”. “MUG 23” drips over the edge of the table and “CREATION” is written along the table’s edge. Below the table, in letters of flames is the word”ART”, an eye with flames for an iris, and “?”.
