Freedom and Justice for All? by Nicole (Pariah) Hollingsworth

Freedom and Justice for All? by Nicole (Pariah) Hollingsworth

Medium: Acrylic on canvas

Size: 12 x 24

Artist statement:  It is my prayer that this piece will open the eyes of the country and leaders of our country to see that mass incarceration is not the answer. Our prisons in America are nothing more than human warehousing and there is no justice in over sentencing the citizens who live and run the country. Anyone at any time can find themselves hopelessly lost in the corrupt system that we call the “Department of Justice” or “Bureau of Prisons” and left with no voice of their own. I’m tired of not having a voice; tired of not being considered a human. It’s time this country opened it’s eyes to see that things need to change.

Image description (Alt Text): The skull of a skeleton peers from behind bars with the bony hand, grasping one bar, and the other hand pointing at you. In stencil text on the top and bottom of this painting warns “You could be next… End mass incarceration.” The words You, Next and Incarceration are in red.
