Freedom of Breath by M. McCubbins

Medium: Multimedia collage, using old magazines, paste, and photoshop to add text

Size: 11 in x 9 in

Artist statement: M. McCubbins (they/them) is a vibrant, defiant deadly spirit, here on the divine assignment to embody love. Their role in revolution is to engineer various portals through which we can all enter and be free. A path finder, a deep diver, a possibility mapper, and a storyteller- a transformer of legacy, a resistor of the state, and a partner to all life, M. uses art and creativity to channel and uplift the collective wisdoms we need to transform our relationship to power. Their art is made with recycled materials, and this particular piece honors the life and legacy of Marilyn Buck- a lover, a friend, a creative, a revolutionary, and political prisoner- who teaches M. how to access their agency in any given moment, and guides them through the practice of resisting white supremacy in a white body.
