Glasswing in flight by Tiffini Gorman

Medium: Stained Glass (copper foil method)

Artist statement: I am a person who loves to learn a new skill and who is a serial hobbyist. Over the last year I have been teaching myself how to make stained glass pieces using the copper foil method by reading books and watching videos. It’s a very time consuming and complicated process but I am at the point now where I am beginning to feel satisfied with my work. I am inspired by nature and light and by the glass itself.  My favorite part of the process is searching for and selecting the types of glass that I will use in a piece. The glass that I use comes from the scrap bins at two art glass manufacturers Youghiogheny Glass & Paul Wissmach Glass Company.

Image description: Artwork is a glasswing butterfly made out of stained glass. The body of the butterfly is textured transparent brown glass, the wings are clear iridescent glass, textured seafoam green transparent glass and opalescent lime green glass.
