How Free Are We: Incantation by Anita Fix

How Free Are We- Incantation: Gratitude to Marsha Scaggs, Leonard Peltier and John Trudell – by Anita Fix

Medium: 6-strand metallic embroidery thread and oil block printing ink on toilet tissue wrapping paper and found cardboard with photocopied ball-point pen border.

Size: 14 x 17

Artist Statement: Picturing a free world, I can only see the world as it is- free and unchanging. Yet “Free”, “Freedom” and “Liberty” are often lies or half-truths used for imperial or self-promoting propaganda. Here, questions are exploded via poetic form to assert a world where freedom for all means as much as freedom for self, and where freedom is exercised toward our collective well-being rather than in service of dominating powers.
