Kindred Souls by Duane Montney

Kindred Souls by Duane Montney
Medium: acrylic with charcoal

Artist statement: “with the theme of empathy and connection I did a loose acrylic with charcoal hatching piece of an old Auschwitz concentration camp survivor and a survivor of the Rwanda genocide with no hand touching the number tattooed on the old mans arm while sitting at a chess board in a park, but the background is loose charcoal depictions of Auschwitz and Rwanda. the open seed of empathy is done in gold paint with tendrils coming out and the subtle washes of color between them is the water connecting them as they are in thought. the old man thinking that he had hoped his peoples experiences would have been the end of these tragedies, while the boy realizes he isn’t alone in his experience.”
