Artist statement: I wanted to paint this onion. It was pulled from our communal vegetable garden. I love how it wants to live so much that it broke through its protective layers. In our garden we tend to the conditions that supports such bloomage: we offer water, soil, sunlight and care. In our social world I echo the longing of this show, that we may get good at creating the conditions for all people to bloom, that we may shift our paradigm from punishment to healing. That we may practice tending to the conditions for blooming by practicing empathy, truth and solidarity. That we may break out of what keeps us safe and small, and live into liberation.
