Mountain Escape by Jane Hein
Medium: Colored glass
Size: 16″ x 12″
Artist statement: When I visualize freedom, I think of wide open spaces in nature. While most prisons are located in rural areas (as far from loved ones as humanly possible in terms of transportation as well as distance), the view from a prison window rarely affords such a view. The landscape portrayed in Mountain Escape is one that haunts the dreams of incarcerated people. The work is framed with clear glass that emit rainbow promises yet is encased in chains.
