Sphere by JHJ
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Size: 18 x 24
Artist statement: Two paintings by JHJ were found rolled together in etta’s basement when she was cleaning in mid June. Handwriting on the back had the title and ” inmate #LA2692/Roller Over #QB1963″ 2019. Looking for JHJ by numbers in the PA inmate locator revealed nothing. Hopefully that means JHJ is free and doing well. If anyone knows who he is please connect them! etta has no idea where these came from but is assuming someone not in prison donated them to us a couple years ago – long enough that memory has been lost.
Image Description: The background of the painting is reminiscent of marbled paper, with white and blue marbling transitioning to green and brown marbling. Seven spheres are arranged across the painting, each with one or two hands with various skin shades, each in a different position forming from the sphere. A large dark green sphere is surrounded by two hands with black nail polish, fingers interlaced. A hand strains reaching upward from a small pink and purple sphere in the bottom left corner. Another hand reaches around a bright pink sphere. A blue and brown striped sphere shows two hands, one reaching out from it, and another supporting a nearby orange sphere. From the orange sphere, a hand is grasping a small purple sphere. And the last yellow and orange sphere has a hand extending from it in the posture of snapping fingers.
