Untitled (Abstract 3) by Brian Fuller
Medium: Split and peeled coverstock, mixed water media on reclaimed materials
Dimensions: 8.5 x 11
Artist Statement: Over the past decade, I've had to adjust to many different types of media. Pen and ink, pencil, map colors, water color, collage, and other various combinations. Due to the gangs and the drug problem, we can no longer get colored paper. Also, many T.O.C.J. craft shops are controlled by the gangs and corrupt guards. They try to extort money from people who make their living as artists. Back in 2023, we lost our mail privileges. Oh sure, perhaps there was some people who were sending in chemical impregnated paper via USPS. Yet, the lion's share of dope still enters the prison system through the guards. When they took our mail, about 3 dozen people had been killed (in T.D.C.J.) from Jan. to Sept. 2023. This year, from Jan. to June, there's been over 50! Some of us learn to transcend our current circumstances via education and the arts. Yet, the vast majority of people down here simply join the status quo; it's "monkey see - monkey do" until they become another tragic statistic. Freedom IS a choice. Many people walking around in society are "locked-up" inside their own head. That's why what y'all do is so important! LET'S STAY FREE!
