Artist Bio I am a self taught artist who has been painting for over 12 years. I work exclusively in acrylics using several different materials as canvas. I try to create interesting textures using items such as masking tape and toilet paper as backgrounds. This leads to dramatic textures, and a unique look in my subjects. My goal is to engage the viewer in a way that moves, invigorates, and leaves an impression.
Artist statement When I think of what freedom means to me, several concepts come to mind. The 3 works I’ve included represent my outlook on some of them.
This piece explores my idea of intrinsic freedom, ie a freedom that is not experienced consciously. This type of freedom, represented by a wild horse, is what I envision when I contemplate the freedom of the living beings of the earth. The horse is engaged in an explosive exuberant energy, reveling in being alive.
