Artist statement: “My work abstracts the fear, intimacy, uncertainty, ecstasy, discomfort, and more that is entangled with being “othered”. Pieces are guided by the physicality of my hand, the material, lived experience, and how each of these come together to create a piece that is more than a ‘resolved’ image. This painting was an exploration of what it means to conceal something that cannot stay hidden. Despite layers upon layers of blue-ish gray paint, the splatters of pink and yellow paint manage to peak through— just as certain aspects of our true selves refuse to stay hidden.”
