Frederick Douglass by Dominic Newsome
Medium: Acrylic on unstretched canvas
Size: 16 x 20 inches
Artist statement: His hard work toward the art of whispering to the mind of Abe Lincoln, to allow the “slave” to fight for his freedom, is my own belief, and a true mindset for those who cared for their freedom. He had the slave master blood moving in his body, but he was straight warrior with African love for the oppressed.
Image description: A portrait of Frederick Douglas based on a well-known black and white photograph, but rendered in striking color, with delicate details rendering his hair, facial expression, and coat.
