Meditation #1 by Ally Shah
Medium: Acrylic on wood board
Size: 14 in x 14 in
Artist statement: “This painting is depicts my personal experience of my senses and their seemingly limitless nature. I am curious about how what we know limits what we sense, and how embracing curiosity and humility can enhance what we experience of the world around us. For me, embracing curiosity has taught me about the ways in which I unknowingly limit my own perception at times. My hope is that by releasing my assumptions about myself and the world around me, I can experience my world and the people in it more fully.”
Image description: A painting of a person meditating. The body of the person has become transparent. Abstract forms representing the senses of sight, taste and sound extend beyond the body. Their hands are held at chest level, palms facing. In the background the landscape is minimal. The focus of the painting is on the meditator and the extension of their sense- their senses reach into the surrounding space.
