Artist statement: I designed and prototyped the process for silt-casting these ceramic bells using just liquid clay, silt, sun, heat and glaze. The bells were cast in silt, which is a mixture of beach sand and powdered earthen clay, using custom 3D printed tools and found objects. Each bell looks and sounds unique, and could be seen to be representative of each unique human who’s lost to a life behind bars.
