The Color Purple by Jane Hein
Medium: Stained glass, glass beads, and mirrored glass
Size: 15.5″ circle
Artist statement: “A mirror will always show you who you are. I framed my mirror with beautiful jewels and beads so that you see yourself regally crowned, reflecting the QUEEN or PRINCE that you truly are. I chose purple to honor the words of Alice Walker: “I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere (or in a mirror) and don’t notice it.” I wish my friends who are incarcerated could have a mirror like this to remind them that they are royalty and they have not been overlooked.”
