Untitled (after Cash and Carson) by Lindsey French
Medium: Woodblock print with urushiol on mulberry paper
Size: 11”x 13”
Artist statement: This work contains poetic text that was generated through a process of reading aloud to a white pine tree and then listening to it, while using a sensor and custom software to compare the text and the sensor readings, and then generate text during the period of listening. The text is visually embedded in the grain of wood, and then printed onto mulberry paper using urushiol – the compound found in poison ivy. I’m interested in materials and processes that challenge and shift my relationships.
